Met Office Weather Forecast – “July Shocker”.
British Summertime was blown away by a blast of winter weather. The
Met Office described the weather for the week as a “July Shocker”
and predicted freak storms to sweep through most of England and Wales.
With winds of up to 50 mph & heavy rain, felling trees, disrupting
traffic, power cuts & risks of flooding. Oh Great !!!!
What
A Difference A Day Makes.
In Barton it was raining all through the night and the predicted strong
winds came, blowing down the remaining England Flags for Euro 2004.
Fortunately BBN was held on the night before the Winter Weather reached
North Lincolnshire – That was more than lucky !
Thousands
Turned Up Despite the Forecast.
Bikers and visitors turned up in the thousands for another hugely successful
night. Two more roads were closed to absorb even more bikes... Priestgate
& Fleetgate from Newport to High Street were closed.
Numbers were slightly down on last year as the weather forecast must
have deterred some. Fortunately, although overcast and cold the rain
held off for the whole event. Trade Stands were located in King Street
& the Market Place. Vintage Bikes could be seen in Queen Street
& the Trials riders were showing off their skills down Cottage Lane.
Bands were playing at The Red Lion, George, The Mill, Blue Bell &
The Coach & Horses.

Biggest & Best So Far !!
The
7th Bike Night was bigger and better than all of those before. The weather
didn't let us down either. Within two hours of the opening there were
about 8,000 bikes lining the streets of Barton. By the end of the evening
there was a record breaking 10,000 + bikes filling most of Barton streets
and spilling over into Baysgarth Park.
Word is spreading about the Barton-Bike-Night & it was reported
that bikers had traveled from Newcastle, Liverpool, the South &
even from the continent. More trade stands then ever lined George Street
& King Street. The North Lincolnshire Classic Motor Cycle Club once
again going through their paces down Cottage Lane Car Park & there
were many classic bikes on display down Queen Street.
A
special mention should go out to the organisers and the 35-strong team
of volunteers who marshalled the event. Well Done - Thanks for
the Best Yet !!!!.

... A Great Success
The Barton Bike Night is gaining popularity
and the 2002 event didn't disapoint. The weather had been fine all day,
then at 5:00pm just before the official opening there was a downpour which
threatened to spoil the evening. The evening did start off relatively
slowly as many locals waited to see what the weather was going to do.
As the weather cleared, the bikers & crowds flocked in and lined the
streets of Barton. It was estimated by the organisers that there was around
10,000 bikes in Barton.
Queen Street, again became the home to the Classic & Vintage Bikes
of which the highlight was the Motorcycle & sidecar used in the 60's
by Chris Vincent. Other machines ranged from BSA Bantams to an Isetta
which have all been restored to their former glory. The North Lincolnshire
Classic Motorcycle Club were showing off their skills.

... Bikers Beat the Bad Weather
The weather threatened to completely
ruin the bike night. High, gusty winds and the constant threat of showers
deterred some & as a result numbers were down on previous years.
However, thousands did still turn out on their bikes and on foot. About
1000 bikes were escorted over the Humber Bridge by police because of
the high winds, others chose to do the 60 mile trip around the Humber
via Goole to get to Barton. Queen Street has become the home of the
vintage bikes. These included Elswick-Hopper bikes which were originally
manufactured in Barton-upon-Humber.
