Barton was once a a major port on the River Humber before the growth of Hull in the middle ages.
Barton Haven runs the length of Waterside Road into the Humber Estuary. There is a footbridge which crosses the Haven allowing easy access between the Waters'Edge Country Park & The Claypits Country Park. Over the years the Haven has silted up and is no longer used by boats. The mouth of the Haven is still used however as a boatyard.
