General
Clay Pits are part of a five mile stretch of land on the south bank side of the Humber of old clay workings which have now flooded with mainly freshwater. The area starts at Barton-upon-Humber & stretches Barrow & onto New Holland. The Claypits are a result of the industry which was along the Humber bank where the alluvial clays where used for the tiles, bricks and other clay products. The pits have since become fresh water marsh with their open waters, reed beds, surrounding grass and scrub. They cater for angling, water sports, camping and caravanning and rambling. Some of the area is classified as Sites of Special Scientific Interest.

The Claypits Country Park includes the Humber Bridge Viewing Area nessles between the Waters'Edge Country Park & Far Ings Nature Reserve.
